Microsoft SBS 2000 to SBS 2003 Migration

Microsoft SBS 2000 to SBS 2003 Migration

If you ask me just because it says "Small Business" does not mean easy. Microsoft has packed everything and the kitchen sink into SBS. So when you get a project to migrate or upgrade one of these "small" behemoth's it will make you head spin. Instead of just working on Exchange, Active Directory, Network services, you have to think of it all, together, like a dis-functional family that is either moving to a new location or going there separate ways. I have done the upgrades, the migrations, and the separating into the full server products with SBS and each time one finds its way to my desk I cringe. The Idea of possibly taking a customer down, I mean really down is daunting.

It was just the other day when one of these projects landed on my desk with a thick "thud" to my brain. I was mulling over the options. I could do a clean install with a new domain and transfer the data and settings or use the Microsoft migration tools…….. Then I heard the telephone ring. It was a colleague of mine so I started the proverbial whining on what I had to do, SBS this and SBS that. He said “Swing It” http://www.sbsmigration.com.

It works. To be honest I should have been able to figure out all the steps myself. But this guy has it nailed down tight. For the price you get a few PDF’s that outline the whole migration and one support call. If you work with Microsoft servers and networking it all makes perfect sense. And, it works! It was the smoothest SBS migration I ever did. I will not live without it anymore. It will be a requirement for all my clients who going into the grand adventure of migrating SBS.
